Mexican journalist Nelson Matus Peña was found dead in his car in the resort town of Acapulco on Saturday. Mattus, the director of a local news site, was parked near a shop when he was shot, local media reported, adding that the man had already survived two assassination attempts in 2017 and 2019.
A week ago, the body of previously missing Luis Martin Sanchez, a Mexican journalist, was found. According to media watchdog Reporters Without Borders, Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists. The murders point to larger, systemic problems. A problem is widespread corruption by politicians and the police and a lack of trust in the media. (Reuters)
